Be Like J-Lo: Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff
November 5, 2008 by Cherie
Jennifer Lopez really has found peace in her life, hasn’t she?
It’s not just about the money or the fame, but she seems to have finally found a balanced life with her family and career.
So I thought, why not take some inspiration from J-Lo and have a giveaway that reflects a simplified life. What better way to do that than with the book Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff by Richard Carlson, PhD. The subtitle of this book says it all: Simple Ways to Keep the Little Things From Taking Over Your Life. For a full description and photo of the book, click this link.
To win, leave a comment below with one way you help keep things simple in your life. Leave your comment by Sunday, November 16th and I’ll choose a winner at random and announce them the next day.

I just remind myself how small I am in the scope of the earth, and things don’t seem as important… even the BIGGER things!
I try to leave a lot of wiggle room in the schedule. I don’t want my fanily to be so scheduled that we have to account for every minute. I want time to enjoy the happy moments.

i’ve read this book before and it helped keep my perspective real. I keep in mind that if what I’m dealing with doesn’t affect my relationship with God or my family then it’s small stuff
I keep things simple by looking at the bigger picture before freaking out over every little thing
this sounds almost too simple. But it works. Practice gratefulness. put the work into seeking out the wonders of the world around you. It isn’t that the world is a perfect place, and that bad things won’t happen to you. But if you change your focus to the eternal cycle of life, The ever changing nature of things and the wonders of the infinite and finite. Then can a small irritation be so powerful.
Learn how to say NO!
go slow
I hate to go all 12-step on you, but the serenity prayer helps me quite a bit. If that doesn’t work, try watching a few episodes of “My Name is Earl”

I leave the house at least once a day.
I have learned not to get upset about things.
I don’t care what other people have, or do, we know what we have and do is what we can afford to do. It is easier to laugh than to cry.
Yup, I’m definitely a list maker…I always have a few going!
If I buy something and equivalent item goes to charity (e.g. a shirt for a shirt).
It helps me to get through the tough times by knowing that good things come to us in disguise sometimes! I try to look at the world through a positive lens!
I don’t have clutter in my life.
i always plan ahead
I don’t over-commit. It’s part of my new-found time-management strategy to keep my life balanced.
If I’m asked to do something that I think will take more time from my family than I want to give, I say (politely) no.
Sticky notes for me. I use these to remind me to do something and would be lost without them.
Thank you for the nice giveaway.
I have a family of 6 and we have to plan ahead to make everything fall into place.
I write everthing on my calendar right next to the computer keyboard so I don’t forget something.
Make all the cookie doughs one evening and then bake them all the next night!
I limit my exposure to the news, too much of it is bad and most of it is sensationalized.

I keep things simple by making lists and using post it notes!
I write on the calendar all the time!

I try not to sweat the small stuff, but making a list of what needs to be done, definitely helps.
I find time for relaxation exercises. It helps me stay calm and prioritize.
I’ve learned to say “no”.
I just complete one task at a time rather than trying to multi-task and getting many things half done.
I don’t keep things that I don’t use.
I stopped saying “yes” to everything and now I pick and choose what I really want to do.

I’ve got 7 children so the most important thing we’ve done to keep everything moving at a reasonable pace and not getting stressed is to have a family calendar. Everyone puts what they have going that day on it and their chores are also on it so that no one has any doubt what needs to be done. There is nothing more stressful than suddenly realizing that you have something to do in one place and have to be somewhere across town at the same time. This way, we can plan on where we are going, who is going and who is chauffeur. lol
I realize that I do not have to do everything.
After having Breast Cancer I decided life is too short to “sweat the small stuff”. I’ve learned to live, laugh and love!
