Baby Photos Equal Big Bucks
Jossip asks an interesting question about the sensibility of paying several million dollars for celebrity baby photos. If you’ll remember, Angelina and Brad’s little girl Shiloh got $4 million for her pictures, while Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony rec’d over $6 million (reportedly) for shots of their twins.
There’s been a question for a long time on whether this kind of dough is worth it. After all, it’s not like the celebrity tots increase sales that much. Or do they?
The verdict is out on that. My personal opinion is that folks really do want to see photos of celebrity kids, and will buy the magazines even if they aren’t the sort to normally do that. So magazine sales DO increase. However, we’re also seeing the new trend of international rights, as Jossip points out. They say, “Magazines who buy exclusive pics often re-sell the international rights to another publication, off-setting their own costs. That’s what People did with Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony’s baby pics.”
