How Much Are Celebrity Baby Photos Really Worth?
Is it just me, or is this whole paying tons of money for the first celebrity baby photo thing a little ridiculous?
Regardless if they give the money to charity (ala Brangelina) or put the money in the kid’s college fund, I think it’s getting out of hand. I understand why the celebs do it. I can’t imagine being stalked by photographers immediately upon leaving the hospital with a newborn.
But the way things get reported bug the heck out of me. Is it necessary to know what each magazine paid for each celebrity baby’s picture?
Why my suddenly cranky view? It all started with news from Marie Clarie that offers to publish the first photos of J-Lo’s babies were going between $4 and $6 million. I wasn’t miffed about the figures per se, but rather the snarky little dig they added after:
“The news may rile Christina Aguilera, who was only paid a mere $1 million recently for her first pictures of new son, Max.”
Hey, I’m all for being snarky (when snarky is not only appropriate but required) but do we really need to make these kind of comments about someone’s babies? Celebrities or not?
Come ON, people! (Or, People, as in the magazine, who for their part have denied that any deal on baby pictures is complete.)
